Erasmus IP: STONE IN PICTURE AND SHAPE<\/b><\/h2>\n

Project\u00a0 \u201cStone in picture and shape\u201d is based on cooperation of :<\/p>\n

\u2022 Higher Vocational School of material design and photography in Se\u017eana, Slovenia,<\/p>\n

\u2022 The School of Arts of Oviedo, Spain and<\/p>\n

\u2022 Art Accademy in Split, Croatia.<\/p>\n

The IP topic would be the process of developing and producing turist souvenirs made of stone. The three participating institutions have similar educational programs. We believe that students from photography, video, sculpture, material design and graphic design will aplly for this program. They will be devided in groups.<\/p>\n

There will be the melting of past and future by using traditional stone cutting methods with the options that are given by 3D support in design and the “through the camera lens” point of view on the details that make the stone objects and the stone processing methods so unique.<\/p>\n

Student will work in mixed groups. The 2 weeks program consists of computer based 3D design of stone objects, studying stone heritage and carving into the fine block of Bra\u010d’s stone a desired object. The island Bra\u010d near Split has a school with long tradition in stone cutting by using traditional roman methods and tools and their own quarry. The Island and also Split, the nearest city, have various monuments and buildings with the variety of stone processed details ready to catch the curious eye of a photographer. The antique roman process of carving can be documented in the workshops with greatest masters of Pu\u010di\u0161\u010da.<\/p>\n

There will be lectures, workshops of\u00a0 tourism, haritage studies, documentaristic photography and video, photojournalism (photo and video), basics of visual communications, architectual photography and advertising photography\/video \u00a0and promotion.<\/p>\n

In the last decade the global markets are recording an increasing need for experts with skills in the field of traditional and modern processing technology, design and restoration of stone. The data show that on the world market the need for the treated stone is growing: the final products for use in construction, and for the ambiental and memorial arrangements and\u00a0 other functional and decorative products made of stone.<\/p>\n

Slovenia is short of qualified staff, with knowledge about materials, design and creation of functional and decorative items and architectural elements. The main object of the IP is to understand the importance of knowledge about the properties of stone and the stone elements, the\u00a0 processing with traditional hand tools and procedures, before designing the products and objects with 3D programs. You cannot design properly if you don\u2019t know the behaviour of materials.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0 students of sculpture should try the traditional\u00a0 process and tools, mentored by high skilled professionals from Bra\u010d. The IP program will allow the achievement of the following skills:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Students become familiar with traditional processing techniques of natural stone.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Students become familiar with techniques of surface treatment of natural stone: moaning pointing, scraping, brushing, grinding, polishing, aging..<\/p>\n

\u2022 Students become familiar with and work tools used for hand shaping and finishing of stone.<\/p>\n

\u2022 The student knows the types and uses of domestic natural rock with an emphasis on the basics of heritage crafts.<\/p>\n

Students will be documenting the IP. Pictures, video and 3D material will be used in The manual of\u00a0 Traditional roman stone cutting methods with 3D support (one of the results of the project). It will be written in English and published in \u201cselfpublishing\u201d edition. Along with the manual the students (with mentors) will prepare the educational video Tutorial for Traditional roman stone cutting methods with 3D support. So they will gain competences of the following subjects:<\/p>\n
